Grimm's Glass Coffin

So I really hate how I spend so much time one the focus of the picture and am really happy with the way it's turning out... and then I get sloppy with the background. I include it to give my work a feeling of completeness, but get lazy and instead reduce the works quality. Maybe I should start taking breaks before doing the backgrounds so I'm not in a hurry to finish the piece.

Story:

This is the original tale of Snow White by Brothers Grimm. After she was poisoned by the Queen, she went into a state of perpetual sleep. Unable to wake her, the dwarves put her in a glass coffin and left her in the forest. One day the prince happened by her place of slumber and instantly fell in love with her. It wasn't until he had his guards try to carry her to his kingdom that the apple was forced from her throat and she reawakened.

In this scene, the Prince has only just discovered the half-hidden coffin in the forest. I have her awake for an emotional effect and for artistic value of the piece.

This piece was drawn with the intention of entering it into the Mirror and Glass Contest by . It was also drawn for my 100 theme Challenge. This picture satisfies #10: Breathe Again.

100 Theme ChallengeDate Started: Thursday, April 28th, 2012
So, yesterday I came home and saw that my good friend, ~wistful-moon was coloring on her tablet. Upon closer inspection I realized she was making a picture for the first theme in the 100 theme challenge, Introduction. I watched her complete it and it really put me in the mood to draw so I was excited to hear that she was going to do another before going to sleep. So I grabbed my sketchbook and joined her. So, once again I am working on the 100 theme challenge and I will be creating all new deviations to submit for it. And, for the love of god, I WILL get through it this time. Once again I will be putting up links to any deviations I know of for people doing the challenge so if you want to participate, just let me know and I will add your submissions to my list. The rules are: You may post ANY type of creative piece for any theme in this challenge. It does not matter what (traditional, digital, sculpture, literature, etc),

Media: Derwent Medium Graphite Pencils on Regular Sketch Paper
Time: Roughly 5 Hours
Thoughts: While I really like the way that the people turned out, I hated the background and ended up cutting most of it out. The shading wasn't as good as some of the work I've put out in the past and it's a little frustrating because I was super happy with the theme this time. I really like the way Snow White turned out and the shiny's on the glass made my happy for some reason. The perspective was off from my vision and I don't really have an excuse for it. But at least the scan was decent today.
